Pump TCO Framework Calculator

Estimate the 5-year lifecycle cost split of an end suction pump — capex, energy, and maintenance — as a framework for RFQ conversations. Not a precise quote.

What moves these numbers at RFQ time

  • Duty-point match: A pump running 15 percent away from best-efficiency-point wastes 3-8 percent of energy over five years. Correct selection is the highest-impact lever.
  • Motor efficiency class: Moving from IE2 to IE3 saves roughly 3-5 percent of pump energy cost. IE4 adds another 2-3 percent but carries a capex premium.
  • Material choice: 316 stainless steel adds 15-25 percent capex over cast iron but extends life under corrosive service — which shifts the 5-year picture.
  • Seal configuration: Mechanical seal vs gland packing changes the annual maintenance allowance by a factor of roughly 2-3×.
  • Wear-ring replacement cycle: Replaceable wear rings on QI(H) frames mean mid-life efficiency recovery without a full pump replacement.

Methodology: Pump shaft power is estimated from motor kW and motor efficiency; energy cost uses your electricity rate and run hours; maintenance is modeled at 2 percent of capex per year for the first 3 years and 4 percent per year thereafter — industry convention from the Hydraulic Institute lifecycle cost framework. Precise TCO varies with duty-point accuracy, installation quality, and operating conditions.
